Workshops
Workshop “Geodynamics and seismicity of the Caribbean region”
Convener: Leonardo Alvarez, CENAIS, Cuba. leoalvar@chcenais.cu
The Haiti earthquake of January 12 of 2010 has focussed the attention of the international scientific community on the seismicity and the intensity of geodynamic processes in Caribbean region. The aim of this workshop is to discuss the more recent advances on geodinamic and seismicity studies in the region, with special reference to the possibility of predicting the occurrence of future great magnitude events and the elaboration of scenarios regarding expected effects.
Participants will found more information and instructions in the web site www.cubacienciasdelatierra.com
We welcome presentations on the following subjects:
- Neotectonics and contemporaneous movements
- Tectonic and geodynamic of the Haiti earthquake of January 2010
- Historical and instrumental seismicity of Caribbean region. Degree of completeness of existing catalogs.
- Monitoring displacements of the Caribbean plate and of its microplates. Implications to the characterization of regional geodynamics
- Focal mechanism of earthquakes in the region and its contribution to geodynamics
- Tsunami occurrence in the Caribbean
- Paleoseismological studies in the Caribbean region
- Crust and upper Mantle structure in the Caribbean region and its relation to seismicity
- Local seismic networks and early warning systems in the Caribbean region
- Gravity and geodynamics in the Caribbean
Workshop on Groundwater Geochemistry and Pollution
Convener: Reineiro Fagundo Castillo (juanrfag@infomed.sld.cu)
The workshop will be a platform in which professional and scientist of Cuba and other countries in the field of geochemistry of groundwater and pollution can present their contributions.
The workshop welcomes presentations about of water-rock interaction processes, the origin of the chemical water composition, the hydrogeochemical modelling, geochemistry of mineral waters, thermal waters and mud, geochemistry of the groundwater flow system at the geologic environmental, karst hydrogeochemistry, seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers, water chemistry, water quality and groundwater pollution, effect of the climate change on water resources, water quality, new technology of water, groundwater management, as well as other related topics. The scientific program will include oral and poster session, with ample time for discussion. Your abstracts should be delivered to geociencias@mnhnc.inf.cu, geociencias@igp.gms.minbas.cu
Workshop on Gold Prospecting and Exploitation
Convener: Alfredo Norman Vega (anormav@civil.cujae.edu.cu)
This workshop is designed to discuss new discoveries and methods in the field of prospecting and exploitation of gold, and the necessity of applying clean technologies.
Ddiscussion will be focused on more rational methods of prospecting and evaluation of the auriferous targets, the methods of chemical- mineralogical and technological trial, the benefit and recovery of gold technologies, good practices and technological improvements in the prosecution of auriferous minerals and the methods to minimize the negative environmental impacts.
Workshop on Marine- Coastal Geology
Convener: Miguel Cabrera Castellano miguel@igp.gms.minbas.cu
We welcome new results in marine and coastal geology and geomorphology research, as well as sedimentology and stratigraphy, processes and genetic factors of the relief, geomorphologic features, coastal classification, neotectonic movements, mineral resources and geological evolution; as well as new methods and technologies.
Environmental Mining Passives and Their Rehabilitation
